Re: Silent Giants

These were a very popular pump at one time. At todays' prices,
they'd be a hundred bucks apiece. Their $19.95 was when you
could stay at Motel Six for six bucks. Several different outfits
tried to revamp the company on Prescott, Arizona. A man in
Portland, Oregon that drove for Greyhound did repair them up
until about 20 years ago. I believe he ran out of parts. Some
of the parts were brought in from Taiwan about the same time.
That company failed due to inferior parts. They also didn't get
the wax correct for the gravel. Theirs' tended to vibrate and
become an abrasive to the components. A few years ago someone
offered me the components. But not the mold for the case which
was plastic in the newer models. I actually contemplated using a
can and lid setup like the originals. But I could not get the per-piece
cost down below $15/les freight. They are heavy and probably
would be a poor seller at $60 which would have been their retail.
I will see if any of those parts are still available. Maybe a couple gross
at 6-7 bucks apiece.
