Re: Some thoughts... Forgot the questions, doh!

Hi, Tony -
You've probably received a number of replies already to this question,
but I'll add my two bits' worth here.
Killies seem to prefer darker substrates. It makes them more
comfortable, and their colors show off better. I use brown/tan gravel in
some of my tanks, darker brown to black in others. The contrasts over the
darker gravel are better. Lots of plant cover helps them feel secure too.
Shyness? Depends on the species, and on the fish. Fundulopanchax
gardneri, for instance, are up front, inquisitive fish that seem to always
be near the front of the tank. Some of my Aphyosemion bivitattum group are
nearly never seen, spending all their time hiding in the plants and breeding
mops. As for traffic, I haven't noticed that it makes much difference. The
shy fish hide, and the ones that don't are always swimming around, no matter
whether there are people around or not.
Neat fish, anyway. Hope you enjoy learning about and working with them.
I certainly do!
donna

Great, now I'm talking to myself.

Anyhow, Gravel color, does it make a difference to killies? As far as
security, showing color...

Also, are killies shy? Meaning, should I put the tank in a very low traffic
area, or do they do alright with people and dogs walking by often?

Thank you in advance

Tony
