Re: SPAM SPAM SPAM Culturing daphnia with dead horses
I Hear that some the Canadian Blue Gularis were being raised in Newfoundland
and that a few got away from their owners, (They were using fry as bait for
Striped Bass) they found their way South to the coast of Cape Cod where they
terrorized a shoal Whales so much the Whales, committed suicide by beaching
themselves.

Once again we are reminded of how our Canadian bretheren north of the border
tend to do things in a "big" way. One of the difficulties they've
discovered in keeping Blue Gularus as large as Killer Whales, is that their
appitite is just as large. The adults do just fine on seals and other live
foods, but how does one feed a lake full of fry!
Taking a cue from the recent "Dead Pussy" recipe for raising daphnia, the
Canadian Killie keepers, known for their crrativity, simply increased the
quantities for their basketball sized daphnia. They found that their baby
"mega"-brine shrimp hatching operation in the Hudson Bay just wasn't keeping
up. So Lake Winnipeg has secretly been converted into a daphnia "pond."
Members of Chicago's Shedd Aquarium have been negotiating for years to
import young Canadian Blue Gularus, but the Fish & Wildlife Service has
refused there permit application for fear that they could accidentally
escape into the adjoining Lake Michigan and wreck havoc upon the Great Lakes
ecosystem (not to mention putting boaters' and swimmers' lives at risk).
So us regular killie keepers will just have to wait and dream that someday,
we'll actually get a chance to see a "Great Blue" a.k.a. Moby Sjoestedti.
