It all depends on the ants. Some of the ones I have experienced (long
legged ants) produce a lot of formic acid (I was aspirating them by mouth
and ended up choking, I would assume many fish would feel the same way).
Also you may have red imported fire ants, or little fire ants (Wasmania sp?)
in your neck of the woods. Both are nasty critters. Termites on the other
hand make a nice snack for fish, amphibians, etc. Lots of fat and protein,
just you don't want them to get to be an established breeding colony in your
house....
