Re: Chirs can do it
I didn't know it was comming from voluntary staff. I just assumed that this was a site that someone was paid to make. Well, I am sorry if I made anyone mad when I said that. I just figured that they were this big thing, not some, uhh, I don't know what word to use without making anyone else mad, well, small thing, lol. Most of the things I deal with, there are huge clubs and such, like rocketry, 100s of people will meet each month out in the nearby desert, and on special occasions, into the thousands. I guess the hobby of Killifish is more of spread out all over the world, and there is no giant concentration of killi keepers, unlike the huge amounts of rocketeers we have here, lol. I already purchased some eggs, the little things that got all of this started, I have Akure and N'Sukka. The eggs are supposed to hatch tomorr, according to the guy I bought them from, and they sure look like it. All the eggs, except one for some reason(but it's not white or anything, so I think m!
aybe it was just laid after the others), have little fish in them, big eyes, heads, bodies, the works, lol, so they should hatch any time now I hope, I have everything set up for them, just waaiting. And incase you havent noticed, I have been doing my homework for the past month! I am sure everyone else has noticed. ;)

Chris, FYI, I started off with aquarium strains and had lumped nothos
and fundulopanchaxs in the same tank because they're just known to the
LFS as 'killies', making online research difficult. The AKA's site was
probably the oft frequented site as I compare/drool/search amongst what
was available to the hobby.
As I learnt a little more, from the generous "geezers" here, I decided
to go back to the drawing board. My problem then, is where you are now,
I can't find the killies I admired and wanted.
Armed with pictures and location 'codes', I purchased/traded killie eggs
and this is where the 'location' bit becomes apparent... the frys grew
into the fishes I wanted/expected, and not some 'mongrel' (no offence).
Decide on which killies you'd like to start with and order some eggs
instead. Give them the proper incubation period required and more
importantly, do your homework and "hope for the best but expect the
worst" as it can be both daunting and disappointing sometimes to have a
tankful of a single sex, belly-sliders, or worse, nothing hatching out.
Even with your foundation in fishkeeping, raising killie-frys is still
quite challenging.

It's not a generally accepted practice to name names in a public forum
as there may be other factors unknown to you (and perhaps other list
members). Commendations or referrals, otoh, is another story. If the
species list or prices are not in your favor, move on... there're other
killie-keepers that you can contact. Whichever route you opt, clear
communication is always good.
> I only know things about the fish on the AKA site because I thought they were pretty much the only Kilies in Existance, I mean, if they charge, what, a hundred dollars for 5 years, why can't they afford to update their website with more fish? I am sure they get quite a profit just from their members, enough to run a website..
You're about to hit another "hot button" but I'll let others elaborate
things further. What I *do* know, is that they (the AKA) are working
very hard with volunteer staff, in promoting the love, distribution and
maintenance of killifish in the hobby.
Cheers,
