If me deductive powers are working (it's the end of the workday) I bet
that "nelken" are cloves and the active ingredient is eugenol, a
fairly toxic oil with a long half life. It's half the smell you used
to get in dental offices before OSHA. (The other half is acrylic
monomer)  I would be surprised if it didn't wreak all kinds of havoc
with gills, being an aromatic oil.
