It would add to the CARBONATE hardness. And act as a buffer to keep the pH
stable. The big thing that is happening to the snails is their shells are
eroding. Same thing happens in my tannic water (black water) tanks. This
would keep the water from being acidic and eroding the shells. Also the
Carbonate hardness allows the snails to rebuild their shells and even grow
larger.
Never heard of calcium hardness unless that is the same as general hardness,
but you will definitely buffer your water and add to the Carbonate hardness
which is what you want to do. For the specifics better ask our chemists,
like Charles Harrison or Joe Gargas.
