daphnia

Hi,

I have daphnia cultures outdoors in 23 gallon tubs that I feed yeast
to every week. These are not my main cultures as they are only blooming off
and on in the spring, fall and winter. I also have separate green water
cultures outdoors that I use to feed fry. My main daphnia cultures are
indoors year round. I use 3 ten gallon tanks with sponge filters and ramshorn
snails to raise daphnia. I feed them a heeping tsp of yeast and 2 tbsps of
baby food sweet potatos dissolved into a pint of water. I divide it between
the 3 tanks and feed again when the water clears (2-4 days). I change 75% of
the water every week and I believe this helps prevent crashes. I can harvest
lots of daphnia every day or two. They are always a deep orange but not as
orange as the ones raised outdoors.
Speaking of rotifers. Wouldn't a green water culture turned into a
rotifer culture be a blessing? Feed them to the newborn killie fry as
rotifers raise some of the best fish.
