Re: observations in Fl. fishroom

throwing my 2 cents on raising killies in a garage in florida, as many of you know i had 250 tanks of killies 4 years ago, raised 20 species, and 12 species in large quantity. by large quantity of killies I am referring to 5000 a month.
with the exception of having a slightly higher sex ratio of dageti and striatum (60/40), all the other strains gave me a 50/50 mix

Subject: observations in Fl. fishroom

Under the for what ever it's worth column, permit me to pass on an observation that was easily noticed by me and may already be known by many. However the more information we pass around the better it is for us and the fish.I have been breeding three varieties of killies for about the last four mos. They are Pt. Long,N.Forshei and gardneri Akure. No reason for those three killies in particular.I presently have sexed out 400 of the Forshei,100 of the Long. and 100 Akure. Of the 600 fish,575 are males! The tanks of killies are in my GARAGE fish room.Fairly warm, but OK.My water is as hard as my head, and I do not know what the PH is.So,why all the males in three different species?Heat in garage? Keep in mind this is not as hot as you may think, and these fish are now just sexing out, which means for the last few mos. as juveniles it was even cooler in garage! Comments please. regards,Mike Bartlett,Oviedo,Fl
