David Lains is right about the fact that you don't really want wild fruit
flies. But...

if you are ever to discover an over-ripe fruit which has attracted a swarm
of fruit flies. you probably could do what an un-named resourceful Chicago
area killinut (George Fryk) has done. Take a piece of (expendable) cheese
cloth or cloth with a fine weave, wrap it over a vacuum cleaner wand (maybe
bag the cloth a little into the wand), sneak up on the fruit flies, suck
them into the cloth, grab up and wrap the cloth and toss them into the
freezer.

The local administration is amazingly tolerant, but I'm not sure she would
go for that. The suspicion would follow that those over-the-hill fruits were
left out on purpose.

All the best ....
