2. My tanks will be about 40' from the hot water heater.  That leaves a lot
of cold water sitting in the pipe between uses.  If the valve is mounted
near the tank, then several gallons of cold water in the pipes get dumped
into the system (central filtration system).

Bill, it seems like a waste of water, but unless your hose is one of those
drinking water safe hoses, it probably is best to flush the water in it out
anyway to get rid of whatever has leached into it from ths hose. (That also
knocks a startling number of earwigs out some summers.) I'm astonished by
the amount of foam which comes out of the garden hose when it is first
turned on. There is also an unwaterlike smell. Sight and smell are hardly
accurate chemical sensors, but if I don't want to drink it, I don't want the
killies breathing it.
