I don't know if you really need to do any preping of the rain water but what I
do is collect it in a outside drum then fill a inside drum in my fish room via
a pvc line thru my basement wall. This line has a whole house filter on it
with a sediment cartridge to filter out the fine stuff. Then on my inside
barrel I have a outside filter mounted on it which runs constantly. This
really polishes the water well. I use the rain water to mix with my well water
for my spawning killies. Hope this helps.
