Nothobranchius guentheri refuse to eat
This was sent to the Killie Trader list. This is the
best place for this type of question so I am posting
it here on Killie Talk. Please reply directly to

Subject: Nothobranchius guentheri refuse to eat
Hi all,
I have been breeding and raising tropical fish since I
have been 5 years old.
(I'm a card carrying member of AARP now!) I even had a
tropical fish store years ago that helped finance
college, a car etc. I never gave killifish much
thought. They looked beautiful but all I did was read
about them. (I have collected books & magazines on
tropicals most of my life and still do so.)
About a month ago I visited Rosario La Corte's fish
room. Many of his 150 tanks are filled with killies of
all species, shapes and sizes. I was so
impressed with what I saw that I immediately began to
devour all literature
on killies and came up with the Nothobranchius group
that I like best. I even joined the AKA and our local
MAKA in New Jersey. At an auction of the MAKA
(my first time attending) I purchased a pair of N.
guentheri. They looked fine. I placed them into a
small tank with a margerine container of boiled
peat. (everything by what I had read) I fed them live
daphnae and they ate some but not all. I fed them
white worms and the female ate them. A week has
gone by and they appear to be healthy. (No oodinium,
salt is in the water,
the ph is 6.8 - 7.0) Their finnage is not clamped. The
male still displays in
front of the female. And they still appear to attemp
spawning frequently.
BUT, they do not eat. The daphnae have multiplied in
the tank; the white
worms go uneaten. I even fed them live mosquito larvae
yesterday and they
don't pay attention to it. The fish look happy and
healthy. Water changes are frequent. Any suggestions?
Many thanks,
Al Brown
