RE: Glass Worms

Edd,
I would add that they are not available LIVE during hot weather. You can
purchase frozen ones from anyone selling San Fransisco (?) Brand frozen
foods. Most of my fish turned their noses up at them unless they were
alive. The live ones, of course, caught the attention of all of my
Epiplatys and Fundulopanchax's. The Aphyo's didn't care for them much.

As was taught to me by ‘Doc’ Specht, most regular mosquito larvae and
white/clear mosquito larvae predate on daphnia/moina. He and I both keep
ours in a screened in porch. Doc, however, is very attentive to his
culture and has supplied all the local fish clubs for years with fresh
moina starts. As for me, the longest I kept them going is about 1.5
years.

David,
Those red mosquito larvae/chronomid larvae/bloodworms are fantastic for
your fish, better even than daphnia for food value, not for longevity or
vivipara in the tank. They will not only condition your fish well, but
they will increase the color incredibly due to their high corotinoid (sp?)
content. The only problem is “hello blood worms, goodbye daphnia” if left
too long. Nice thing about live bloodworms is, if they get loose in the
house, they don’t bite, and live even shorter lives than mosquitos. They
do feed on fresh growth of plants though.

That is my $0.02 worth.

Allen
