The red wrigglers are probably "bloodworms" the larvae of a Chironomid midge.
The best way to keep these larvae from occurring is to screen the tub from
the flying adults so they cannot lay their eggs. An old window screen across
the rim of the tub would work, if it fits. Otherwise make a wooden frame and
stretch window screening across it. Or, collect and feed the larvae daily to
your fish.
