mine is metal, just opened it up.
What *is* that stuff on the gravel? Mine is sticky, like with grease.
It will eventually dry if left exposed to the air long enough. I believe
that it keeps the gravel from rattling.

I've not tried it yet, this job is a bigger one than I can while at working
waiting for my project to compile, I'll tackle it this weekend, but I have
one question. Just how do you get the string/spring down the new airline
tube!
Actually, I forgot how I did it. I have one on my project bench to do. It is
obviously a pull or push proposition. If I get to it this week I'll let you
know how I do it.
BTW, if you never opened one of these you should, they are clearly the work
of an insane genius.
I saw them as the ultimate kluge. Start with a reliable, but noisy pump
design and then keep kluging until it's quiet. A piece of tape here and a
piece of string there.
(Mine pumps air but is noisy, I'd like to fix it.)
Make sure that all of the screws and rivets on the pump are tight to prevent
rattle. Then make sure that the pump HANGS inside the can so that it does
not touch the sides when the pump is upright. The can should not touch the
case. Most of all have fun getting all of the gravel back in! And do not
cross thread the screws.
If you put it together right, it should be as loud as an electric razor in
an adjacent room.
Peace,
~RJ~
