<<My pupfish will lay their eggs at the very top of the mop. At times it seems
that they must be partially out of the water trying to get the eggs right in
the knot. Also, I have purple, brown and green mops in my tanks and the
purple will have a few eggs, the brown a few more and the green usually looks
like caviar. If anyone is interested in seeing a mop *full* of eggs let me
know and I'll send you a photo. Russ

I have also found that some pupfish like Cyprindon ermus actually crawl up on the floating algaes to place their eggs when kept outside. Half of the fish are above the water in the same time as they are spawning. When outside this means that the eggs experience a large difference betwin day and night temperatures. The sun baking on the eggs during the day.
Anyway, I never use mops for either the Cyps or the Aphanius. Only living algaes (Spirogyra). Very easy. When keeping the fish outside, if the algaes float, they are usual filled with eggs as this is happening only at the same temperature as are suitable for the fish to spawn. One takes the algaes up, leaving the to dry a little and then picking out the eggs.
