Re: Species Maintenance and Extinction

George, you don't have to be "one of those good old boys" to be involved
in Species Maintenance.
We have several individuals who contacted us (Greater Cincinnati
Killifish Association) inquiring about our efforts with Pachypanchax
sakaramyi and relatives. They aren't GCKA members, but they do keep the fish
we're keeping as a species maintenance effort. We're glad to have them,
although we have limited contact with them. We do trade fish to keep the
gene pool as open as possible, but the actual maintenance effort isn't quite
as formal as you might expect ... we're all volunteers, and sometimes things
go well, somethimes they don't. Sometimes we have fish available for others
to share, sometimes we don't.
If you're still interested in participating in this important effort,
contact Charles Nunziata again, and ask him who's coordinating the efforts
for the species you're interested in, or contact me privately at
dmrecktenwalt at prodigy_net and I'll try to get you more information.
    donna
