RE: Kampong
Did someone ask about Kampong?
This plant is also called a custard apple, and a few other names in the
hispanic communities of the Carribean.
The latin name is Annona squamosa. The fruit looks like a pear with
dread-locks. The islanders wait for the fruit to turn black and get soft
before eating it. I didn't like it too much but it was a lot like custard
inside, and extremely rich, creamy, and sweet.
The tropical almond or Terminalia Catappa is in the Combretaceae family,
but the Annona squamosa is in the Annonaceae family. IF someone did not
ask about the Kampong but asked about Ketapang, then they were correct in
the assumption, as this is just another name for the Tropical Almond (also
called badamier, Java almond, amandier de Cayenne, tropical almond, wild
almond, Indian almond, myrobalan, Malabar almond, Singapore almond, Huu
kwang, Sea almond, kobateishi.) Keep in mind it is not a true almond.
I am at work and couldn't remember whether someone had said Kampong or
Ketapang.
If more info is wanted on the Kampong I can oblige.
