Re: G.E. Lighting

But I'm not really comparing with any kind of industrial appliaction
ballast. I'm talking about the $9 shoplights which are so cheaply
constructed that the ballasts provide highly inferior performance.

Last year we replaced some old magnetic ballasts and T12 lamps with some
new Motorola High Output electronic ballasts and T8 lamps in a
manufacturing production area and the difference was dramatic compared to
the same replacement done with T8 lamps and standard output electronic
ballasts. I would assume that it would cut back on the life of the lamp.
A company called Advance makes a ballast that has a feature called
Sequenced soft start that extends the life of the lamp. Also the more times
the lamp is turned on and off will contribute to lessening the lamp life in
the long run.
