RE: KillieTalk Digest V3 #2037

I use a 39G plastic industrial drum. I added the correct amount of marine
mix salt to get the specific gravity [salt concentration] needed
[1.012-1.024 is good enough]. I have a good air stone at the bottom and a
28W CF fluorescent light on 12 hours per day. I added several grams of
brine shrimp eggs to the brine to get them started. Adults appeared 3-4
weeks later. I feed them daily, either singly or in various combinations
the following food: brewers and bakers yeast [brewer's seems better], baby
food sweet potatoes, baby food carrots/peas, gram flour [chick peas?],
spirulina powder [from GNC]. When preparing these foods I apply one of
those high speed hand, stick mixers that produces a fine water suspension of
the ingredients. Yes, this is a water slurry that is fed. The culture is
maintained at about 72F. It has a heavy layer of light brown mulm on the
walls of the drum and must have a similar or worse build-up on the bottom
[can't see into the culture more than 18"].
In one year of operation I have never changed water or cleaned the drum. I
occasionally top up the water that has evaporated. The culture just
continues to produce steadily. I collect adults from the drum about 3 times
per week by using an appropriate sized mesh net. I do not have a lot of
fish to feed but the culture produces way more food that I can use. I have
been astounded at how maintenance free it has been and what it can produce
as compared to white worms and daphnia.

Does anyone out there know how to raise BBS into the adult phase of the

life cycle? If so, could you pass on the information. Thanks.
