Re: Maybe Not Glugea or Pleco
Sorry to discuss non-killies but I have a theory about chocalate gouramis,
whic may extend to many other perceived sensitive species. Some decades ago
when working summers at a wholesaler we begged him to order the chocolates
many times. Usually they'd die within days. One shipment was succesful. It
DID come with some sort of "mystery leaf" in it.
But, I kept these 6 chocalates for years afterwards. I moved them from
Cleveland water, to farm well water, back to Cleveland water. Sometimes
changing 90% when they had to move to a new house. and with drastic
temperature changes. Once acclimated to a tank environment,They had no
problems with these changes. They were as hardy as goldfish.
I think the problem with so manty sensitive species is simply a matter of
"shock",when moved ionto a glass house ; e.g., a CNS depression with
associated physiological changes. This , if it isnt itself enough to do
them in, leads to biochemical changes, immune deficiencies, etc which lead
to losses. They seem incredibly prone to velvet after these periods of
neurological shock.
