Re: CKI 2002 Annual Show is canceled - too bad for Kurt Wolf too
Unfortunately, Kurt someone "dropped the ball" and did not apply for a
sanctioned show. These rules apply to all affiliate clubs and have been in
place many years. No doubt the BOT will revisit the rules and see if they can
be improved or publicized so no one misses the deadlines again.
I have attended the Chicago show in the past and there was a nice show and
the group of members were most enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Those folks
are still there; so Kurt try to make the meetings and become acquainted. You
are correct in noting killifish are rarely available in general fish shows.
These are "kitchen breeder" fish as they are not commercially lucrative
enough for the professional fish farms to handle. One must find other
hobbyists and the AKA is THE place to find most of those people.
By all means attend the AKA annual show in St. Louis over Memorial Day
weekend, May 24-26, 2002. This is the "grandaddy" of killifish shows and
attracts the most members from all over the country and the world. A
tremendous collection of killifish species will be displayed and ALL are for
sale at auction on Sunday. Over 400 pairs of killifish were auctioned at the
convention last year! Not only can you meet the people, but you will see
hundreds of wonderful killies and can bid on them yourself! It is a win-win
situation for killifish folks. Hope to see you in St. Louis.
