Re: Almond Tree Seeds
The tropical almond or Indian almond is not an almond. It is from another
family of plants (Combretaceae). The seed doesn't have the bitter taste or
smell associated with peach pits or raw almonds. The kernel is very small
and almost not worth the effort to get to, but it is edible and tasty raw.
The fruit, with its pulp around the kernel does look like a bit like a true
almond. They are a common sea shore plant here in Hawaii and is used for
landscaping in areas where sea spray is a consideration. The seeds a
problematic and a mess to clean up no to mention the leaves.....
