Re: Mosquito Egg Rafts

You would be surprised. Some mosquitoes have eggs that can persist dry
(damp soil or peat) in excess of 6 months. I need to check out which
species/genera this is common, but if you got them freezing them won't be
necessary. This is a problem with the mosquitoes in Hawaii. they oviposit
in areas where there is temporary water, it dries up, then next big rain
instant mosquitoes. Most fish can not persist in these areas. I have been
considering finding an annual killie that will work under these conditions,
but our rains are too unpredictable and ants seem to be able to eat the
eggs. This was actually tied once in Hawaii with N. guntheri, and C.
whitei...

Subject: Mosquito Egg Rafts

Is it possible to collect egg rafts, freeze them,& use them for producing
larva in the winter. Not my idea,I vaguely remember hearing someone talk
about the possibility.
