Re: Getting rid of Fruit flies with wings
They are more obnoxious than harmful and some fish like them. The best
way to be rid of them is to start a new culture with only clean worms and
use clean soil or bedding. You can
be certain the bedding is egg free by micro waving it 4 minutes/pound on
high.
Once you decide to start the new culture keep it away from the old one
Those little rascals
seem to migrate. Select enough worms from your culture to stock the new
one and rinse them in cool aquarium water (no Chlorine or chloramines
)Usually I would keep the old culture in a refrigerator until I saw signs
that the new one was going well. You married guys - don't try that at
home. Once the new culture is going strong use the old one in the
garden.
Usually the new culture is mite free for about a year -- Has anyone ever
had a totally mite free white worm culture ??
