This is not so simple... Roger's SAA maintenace book in pdf has
secuirty features that prevent printing and copying text and pics.
Many other pdfs with sensitive or "precious" info are likewise
restrictive in what you can do. This exists to safe guard
intellectual property and so makes pdf a nice format to post pictures
and text you want to keep from illicit profiteering...

Another factor is the type of pdf. Some are written as bitmaps while
others are written as text. You can't copy and past text from bitmap
pdfs (those drawn with LaTex although this may be different with the
new programs) but you can select and copy text from Adobe and other
pdf formats provided the security restrictions allow you.

The versitility and the free availablity (provided you can pay the
telephone call) make pdfs really great for sending documents around.

Certain people can't get the Adobe readers due to network
restrictions so this will have to be kept in mind. I have a pdf
writer that writes text pdfs. It cost me nothing (pdf885.zip if you
can find it, I took it off tucows.co.za) and functions as an
artificial printer port. Write your document in word, inser pics
etc.. and print a pdf. Easy. If someone can't read the pdf, he sends
you an email and you send him the doc or rtf format back. Easy
again.:-)
