RE: overwintering daphnia
Well I didn’t “raise” them per se, I just left the container out there.
When it warms up, about 2 or 3 days later I see them swimming along the
top. They freak out and go to sexual reproduction upon any unusual change
in environment (iun thizs case temp.) and mine dumped eggs in the bottom.
IF you decide you want moina in the winter and have no source nearby (i.e.
club) then siphon out the contents at the bottom of the tub and place in a
gallon container or 10 gallon tank and warm them up to about 78 degrees
with plenty of light about 14 hours a day. Then they will hatch. Other
wise I just leave them alone and let htem do their thing. I also use dog
poop in small amounts to get a good bloom of green water, bacteria, and
daphnia.
Keep in mind I live near Tampa, FL so YMMV.
