RE: breeding annulatus

Brother Paul,
I have bred this fish previously, and here is how I did it. I had 3
tanks set up. I then decided to breed the ANN pair in each tank and then
move it to the next tank. Once, every two weeks I would move the parents.
This gave the fry time enough to grow a bit before being moved into a ten
for grow out. Duckweed, as mentioned before, was the “forest” these fry
like to hide in. Also, I used very short (2”) and very thick floating
mops. Black yarn and hidden floatation device. The fry are virtually
invisible during the first couple of days. During this time you can see
their eyes with a flashlight among the duckweed, as previously stated. I
fed mine infusorians the first week after removing the parents to the next
tank, then BBS or pulverized(powderized), high quality flake. The parents
like a dark environment. They grow pretty slow, like nasty, tannic water,
and love hiding. There have been some who grow them in hard water. I
bred them in ˝ and ˝ or about 150ppm (hanna meter) then moved them to 100%
tap water, for grow out. They seem to breed best in warm temps. I fed
the parents, black worms, BBS, good flake, Moina, etc.

These are my experiences only, and obviously are not the only way top
breed this fish.

Good luck to ya!!
