Re: Sex Ratios
Temperature of water has long been known to affect the sex ratios of many
species of fish. Most often that cut off temperature is higher to have a
preponderance of males. Ie: 78 degrees and over often tilts the ratios
toward Male>>Female.
Temperatures often for tropical species and this is known in salt water too,
in the lower ranges 72-74F result in the ratio being the opposite Female >>
Male.
An interesting experiment would be to spawn these fish and raise the fry at 2
degree intervals between 72F and 84F and over 3-4 spawns with each
temperature verify the sex ratios of the fry. I would gather this would take
at least 6 months to 1 year but would be a nice project and valuable
information for all of us.
