According to George S. Myers, Ernst Ahl was a devoted Nazi, who joined
the party in the 30's. He was killed in 1944 in Yugoslavia. The huge number
of fish described by him was part of the Nazi goal to describe more new
species than any other nation. Of course, every ichthyologist since Ahl who
worked with killies has had to clean up his mess. Myers did not consider him
much of an ichthyologist. If you ever see a photo of him you will see he
looked EXACTLY like the weird little Gestopo man in the original Raiders Of
The Lost Ark.
