I am not picking on you David W. just some of your
comments echos what some have been saying.

People lets lighten up here. I think many Betta people
could take offense to these comments. I have been to a
Killi convention and let me tell you all I saw for the
most part were fat, nerdy, middle aged men. Hey I
propbaly fit in that catogary too , except for the
midlle aged part LOL. My point is Bettas are bringing
in so many new hobbyist. Overall there is far more
interest in the USA in Bettas right now then in
Killies. I am sorry to say folks. My point is we are
acting like old "farts" regarding the fad of the
younger generation as "foolish" I would like someone
to tell me why it is bad for the hobby if some Bettas
go for $300 a pair or more? many more go for $20 pr.
If someone wants a new genetic mutation they will pay
top dollar. When Triple Red Cacatoudies first hit the
scene I saw them go for big bucks same with new
species of Apistos, new strains of anyfish for that
matter. I would say to all of you look at all the kids
with websites out there, women getting involved in the
hobby because of Bettas its not a bad thing it's a
good thing. There are many more people interested
there fore because the demand is higher the prices
these breeders get is far greater. I for one think
Bettas are a good thing. Will these high prices last
long? History tells us no. However will these "new"
hobbyists stay some will some wont. But think about
it. Bettas are great because you don't need allot of
tanks just jars so many kids and other non-traditional
people are able to get more involved. I think in the
end we will see more Fish hobbyist and that is a good
thing. Think about it how many of you started out with
Killi fish as your first fish? Not many I would
gather. Also keep in mind Bettas are very easy to
breed and this gives these new hobbyist a sense of
accomplishment and confidence.

Perhaps there is some jealousy on our part at the high
prices these breeders are getting. Some of us may
think we are better breeders and it's not fair. Supply
and demand. Capatalism is the American way. Anyone who
says otherwise, who perhaps wants a cap on fish
prices, ever hear of Communism. :)We may call them
fools they may just call us Cheap fat old farts. LOL
