Re: OT. bettas
Having bred both killies and bettas over the years, I can say one thing about
bettas, the work involved in raising bettas is far and above that of raising
killies. There was a time when I ran well over 100 aquariums breeding
killies, cichlids and bettas. In addition to the 100 aquariums we had well
over 250 - 300 jars of bettas. The jars with bettas were cleaned twice a
week. This included changing water and washing the jars. When I decided to
get back into fish several months ago with my son Andy, I briefly thought
about bettas. Then I came to my senses because right now I don't have the
time to devote to cleaning all those jars.
As for which is prettier, I have never tried to compare fishes. Back when I
was breeding bettas, there were some solid red and solid greens around. The
reds were so red, that even the area around the eyes was red. They were
beautiful, there wasn't a speck of blue or black on these fish. 20 years ago
they were selling for $100.00 - $200.00 a pair.Then I think back to a little
killie that I had at the same time A. ahli. The male was 1" long and
absolutely gorgeous.
It all comes down to this, you will pay a price for something if you really
want it.
Anyone have any ahli? Now is the time to let me know....
