Re: OT. bettas

Ah! But the difference is that you cannot breed a lone male killie of a
given species to anything but a lone female killie (or perhaps two females
if he is a REALLY lucky male LOL) of the same species. If I have a lone
male Fp. gardneri I can't just toss him in the tank with my A. australe
female and get some Fp. gardneri back. On the other hand, if I buy say a
lone turquoise betta I have dozens of females I could pair him up with in
order to produce quality stock and dozens more if I didn't care about
producing really ugly fish. In other words I could pair him with a female
from his color group (like turquoise, royal blue, steel, pastel, etc.) or
even a red female which would produce viable offspring but their color would
be terrible.

However, for wild betta species, a lone male is just as "worthless" as a
lone male killie.
