Hi,
I forgot one point. The East Germans gave us the great Gunther Sterba
and his unsurpassed (and translated) books FRESHWATER FISHES OF THE WORLD and
AQUARIUM CARE. In presentation, content and scope, they have no equal. Only
Innes' EXOTIC AQUARIUM FISHES comes close and Innes, the fine *capitalist*,
published it at a loss for years. The enormously successful Axelrod, already
a millionaire in the 1960's as a young fish *mogul*, never produced, IMHO, a
fish book as fine as those of Sterba's. (You should see the last 1980's
editions of Sterba's books from East Germany -- forget West Germany's Baensch
Atlas!!!!!) Its too bad that Sterba's name is not the one most associated
with the hobby. Axelrod was far more successful in the market place, but who
did the best work?
Robert
