To add to Wright's accurate (as always) reply.
I prefer to use single species tanks.When changing hardness of water, it is
usually safer making harder than softer. Osmotic shock appears to more of a
problem when minerals are removed.
I use live, frozen, and flake foods with nothos, with frozen bloodworm as
the main part of their diet.
One thought, with all your plants, is your tank brightly lit?
If so I suggest turning the lights off for a while before feeding.This
sometimes makes the fish feel more secure.
