Many things kill nematodes that are quite harmless to fish. They are *not* a
good "mine canary."

Nope. Chlorine, ammonia and chloramine are small enough to get right through.
RO membranes don't block them, AFAIK. My RO system has three carbon filters in
addition to the inlet sediment cartridge. One pre-filter, one post, and a
smaller one in the RO outlet line.

In that case, usually after, I think. I've never used CTA, to my knowledge.

Be advised that you will still have it in your RO water, unless that branch
has a carbon filter, too. The standard household filters at Home Depot o/e are
just fine, and the carbon cartridges for taste and odor in drinking water do a
pretty good job. For the RO water, one of the little cartridges designed for
ice-makers might be ideal. It should last a loooong time.

There's absolutely no comparable substitute for a simple pool chlorine test
kit, tho. Use it often and avoid catastrophe.
