RE: uh oh
Hi kristi,
For the time being I would not worry about breeding the fish. Quarantine
your community tank first. I would move nothing from that tank to your
breeding tank(s) At least until you are certain that the fin rot is long
gone. Get a new pair of AUS and start them in the 5 gal tank if your pair or
half thereof does not make it.
My experience tends to indicate that killies are very hard to cure once
sick. Your best off never exposing them to pathogens in the first place.
Years back I tried to medicate killie tanks. But I found that all too often
the diseases would crop up again after a few weeks to a few months. I
finally bleached out any infected tanks. I bleached my nets and dumped the
plants and gravel. Any fish which survived went into one quarantine tank
where some of them still live. It was hard parting with some of my favorite
plants. And it took some work to tear down and bleach out my larger tanks.
But it was worth the work.
Peace,
~RJ~

Hello everyone,
Seems my fish in my community tank have come down with fin/tail rot and
my female aus (I have a pair) has it pretty bad. I'm not sure she'll
make it. I began medicating them yesterday with tablets of Maracyn.
However, all she's doing is sitting in the bottom and not eating. Does
anyone have any suggestions? If not I'm currently preparing a 5 gal
breeding tank for them and I might have to purchase some eggs and raise
fry in there. Then I'd put some of the females in with him, in place of
the one that might die. Would that be ok?
thanks again,
kristi
