RE: Water chemistry

I think that phosphate and all kinds of assorted proteins are part of what
builds up. I suspect that the proteins are what cause our fish to not do
well.

Subject: Water chemistry

Hi Folks,

Here's a question for all of you biologist types out there. We all know
about the nitrogen cycle ammonia to nitrite to nitrate to plants, algae or
anaerobic bacteria.

We also know what this process does to pH. Decreasing it over time.

But there is something else going on. Obviously not all of the food is
converted to ammonia. I suspect that something else builds up in the water
over time. It is exasperated by heavy worm feedings and high fish to water
ratios.

I have seen too many fish suffering from bad water syndrome when the
Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate and pH was excellent. So what am I missing? What's
building up in may water that is necessitating the water changes?

My follow up question would of course go towards a system of remediation
between water changes.

Peace,

~RJ~
