After looking at the drain system [link to picture above] in George's 
very impressive set-up, I'm wondering:  If one were to pick up some 
lava rock from Home Depot, crush it into smaller pieces, and either 
line the gutter with it or strategically place small piles  under the 
drain units that come out of the shoeboxes, would this create a kind 
of wet/dry filtration a la deBruyn?
