My understanding is that cockroach residue is about the most allergenic
substance known to man. Chocolate gets virtually all of it's reputation there,
from the way the cocoa beans are stored. [Love the look of horror on the
chocaholic's face when told that! :-)]
Reminds me of the problems we had in Puerto Rico. My young bride and I were
from CA, where Tarantulas and Black Widows were common and feared. We were
just over-run with cockroaches until we learned to make pets of the huge gray
spiders that all our Puerto-Rican neighbors tolerated in their homes. Those
and a few tree lizards made the house downright comfortable, once we overcame
our fear.
I'm not paranoid about pesticides, like some, but I must admit the natural
solution was attractive, at least until my wife got one of those large spiders
in her blouse sleeve. Hysteria city for a few minutes, and cockroach haven for
weeks!
