The main advantage of the Carolina Bio Fruit Fry media is that it contains mold
inhibitors. When I was doing my thesis work on Dros. genetics at Cornell we use
to buy the mold inhibitor as a separate product and add it to the media.
The media sold by Carolina Bio is simply instant mashed potatoes with the mold
inhibitor added. They do carry the mold inhibitor separately but I have been
unable to purchase due to security restrictions.
Oh by the way, the blue media merely contains a couple of drops of food
coloring. Save your money. In fact, I like green better. Easier to find the
maggots.
