RE: Grow out densities?
Hi Paul,
Without filtration or aeration surface area is a critical determining factor
when it comes to density. If you filter the water or add aeration surface
are becomes less critical. Water changes are always important.

John,
I thought that the surface area was the most important part of the
tank. I raise my fry in plastic shoe boxes. I only put about 1 inch
of water in depth. About 70 square inches of surface space, I keep
about 20 1/2inch fry, and when they reach an inch, I cut it down
to 10 fish of 1 inch is size per box. I change all the water in the
boxes about 2 times a week.
Bro. Paul
Hello, I wanted to know what kind of population densities people grow out
there fry. I am most interested in Fp. since I am currently working with
WAL, SJO, and AMI. I realized that with more fish per gallon, water quality
becomes even more critical and it is important to feed more when a
population gets more dense as competition for food items get more intense.
My question is this how many fish per gallon can you have and still have
good growth and healthy fish. I have started getting big spawns ie 140+ and
need to know how big of a tank I am going to need to grow these guys out.
Right now they are in a 20 gallon tank. Is this going to be big enough for
140 fry/fish... that is a pop density of 7 fish per gallon (BTW these are
WAL). Thank you, John
