Re: Constructing a photographic tank
Kean,
You can read my article here http://www15.brinkster.com/runo7/fishphoto.htm.
This is how I construct my tank.
First you got you glass cut. Then you silicone 3 side together. You can
use tape to help you hold them together while the silicone have not dry.
Then you silicone the 3 side to the base glass. The most difficult part is
the last side. If the tank is not big enough for your hand to get in -like
mine- you are in troble. If you have good silicone gun then it is
different story. I didn't. Too big and your fish will have too much room to
move, and that will make them difficult to photograph. You can have one
extra piece of glass that you can just put them in the tank and give the
fish less space to swim. DON'T STRESS THEM THOUGH.
I talked to Tony Terciara, once. He mention using triagle shape tank which
he put infront of planted tank. The 45 degree front side made it easy to
use flash, and eliminate reflection you might get using plain glass. That
will be good alternative but should be difficult to built.
I'm planing to built a new one as well. I heard some of my friend mention
non-reflective glass that use for picture framming. I might try that glass
for my front side. And if you use dark color grass, like tea color one,
that should help as well. So that will be my plan. Non-reflective front
and tea color back.
Good luck and be patient,

I use a 2-1/2 gallon tank that is kept just for taking
pictures. That still gives the fish a lot of space so
patience is required. I plan on trying one of the 2
1/2 gallon tanks that has the glass inserts for
bettas. That way I can try putting plants in one
section, the fish in the other. Then you take the
pictures from the end of the tank. That will cut down
on the space they have to run around.
Nonn takes some really nice pictures and I believe
made his own tank. Hopefully he will respond and give
you the dimensions he uses.
