They are playing "King of the Hill" :)

Worms will often climb when not rinsed in declorinated water.  Also may
climb when there is to much water covering them and they want to breath the
surface air.  They may also climb when there is too little water covering
them.  I'll bet in your case it's number three.

Why do my blackworms keep climbing up  the side of there container?

I rinse them daily and clean the containers when I get new worms, about ever
three weeks. I split I pound of worms into three shoeboxes.
