RE: walkeri

Hi Folks,

I have hatched FIL Fry at over 5 months. The hatch could have been better if
I had hatched it sooner but all in all it was OK.

I will not go along with velvet as the cause of death either. Velvet has a
live cycle of several days. Even if there were cysts in the peat, it should
not have reached a lethal level so quickly.

As to the worms overnight they hardly had time to die much less decompose
and foul the water.

I tend to think that something else is wrong here. Possibly some form of
contamination either in the container or the water.

There may be something else you are leaving out. I'm loathe to accept an
easy answer here.

Best regards,

~RJ~

Subject: walkeri

I dunked my first bag of peat collected from my walkeri about 3 months ago
and was pleased to see fry the next day. I added micro worms and checked
them again this morning. Not one of the fry were swimming.....alll dead. No
yolk sacks. Water was essentially the same as they were spawned in 185
conductivity, pH 7.7. Peat was stored at ambient temperature, which is 74-78
in my fishroom

This is my first experience with substrate spawners. I'm puzeled at the
outcome. Any ideas?

PS The eleven noisy diaphragm air pumps that drove the filters and airstones
in my ~60 tanks/jars/jugs were finally silenced last night when the JEHMCO
linear piston pump went "on-line", finally. I was lucky to have my
brother-in-law (engineer) for the holidays to help build the syatem. I used
a
1" PVC loop with manifold drops to the shelves and, in the loop, we used PVC
electrical conduit elbows to reduce any noise. It is sooooooo quiet and I
have air to spare. Definitely worth the investment.
