Re: Sex Ratios

High David,
Although I do not seem to be raising as many
spoorenbergi as you, I get approximately equal numbers
of males as females. Sex in fish is largely
detremined by environmental conditions. Since you are
getting high percentage hatching most of your
environmental conditiions are in good. The one
variable that you did not mention is temperature at
which the eggs are incubated prior to hatching nor the
temperature at which the fry were raised. These
temperature factor may be the link to explain the sex
ratio. I keep my fish at 75 degrees and the eggs are
incubated and raised at 75-77 degrees F. If you are
raising your fish at lower temperature try reaising
the temperature or if higher lower the temp. Since it
appears that you try varying pH, and hardness levels
try temp.
