RE: AKA Convention fish room

My experience seems to differ. I have only attended one convention. The
order of fish sale in the room went something like this.
Colorful and common Aphy's like AUS and ELB seemed to go first.
Not far behind, the S. A. Annuals moved out, novelty, brilliance and rarity
were a factor.
There were few rivs and Nothos there so they went quickly. So it was hard to
establish any pecking order. I do not think that any were left in the third
round.
Then the uncommon Aphys moved out.
Fp's went out next and then lampeyes.
Many rare and exotic fish which were younger and out of color or just less
colorful survived the picks. I got my Fp. fallax fafinda yellow in the third
round. Imagine a fish that colorful and rare being overlooked. There were
several other large Fp's left in the 3rd round. I guess many people do not
have enough room for them.
So having a low number was not critical depending on your interest. If you
are an Aphy breeder interested in common and colorful species a low number
will benefit you. If you dig lampeyes there will be some great specimens in
the last round. As this is a flavor of the month kind of hobby I am sure
that every convention will be just slightly different. This months hot fish
will no doubt go first regardless of what type it is. But I compared my
observations with Lenny Makowiak and he confirmed that it was so way back
when also.

Very true. The "interesting" fish that may go in the early rounds are
usually not the type of fish newbies should be looking at for their first
killie. Plus there's always the auction. So don't despair, even if you
don't get in early.
