It has been my experience that priority mail has generally been acceptable
for most killifish. When shipping one or two pair the risk vs. cost factor
runs in favor of the savings in postage.
But as I also co-ordinate the box trades for my local club MAKA, I usually
ship the larger boxes (10+ pair of fish) express mail this reduces the cost
to less than $4.00 per pair. This is overall acceptable.
I might be willing to put a pair or two of my own replaceable fish at risk,
but I would hate to hear that another club I was trading with received a box
of dead fish or that they arrived after their meeting and could not get
distributed. Even when it is not the box trade coordinators fault that
things went wrong in shipping he/she will never live down such a disaster
and it reflects poorly on his/her club as a whole. So when it is really
critical that the fish get there alive express mail is the only way to go.
My advise is that if you are going to place an order, order big. Get
together with other killiefolk in your area or with other club members or
even an interested LFS and order a real box full of fish. This will
substantially reduce and or distribute the shipping cost per fish and
increase the likelihood that your fish will arrive alive.

Wow, 6 days! That is a bit alarming. I was going to place several
orders for killifish on Tuesday (totaling about $100), the weather out here
in CA is good even though it is winter, and now I am not sure if I should.

was debating ordering them express mail or priority mail, wondering if I
should risk saving the extra $ and order them by priority mail, but with
what
you just said and the anthrax scare in the postal community, I guess I
should
just bite the bullet and have them sent express mail. Darn !!! :))))
