The word Kill is apparently Dutch for a small body of water. I live very
near a channel called the "Arthur Kill" which separates Staten Island from
New Jersey. In the Kill there are very large populations of small fish.
Amazingly enough these are Killifish! And yes I have caught and kept
killifish from the Kill.
I assume that originally they were called kill fish. I imagine that the "i"
got snuck into the word much like the "r" in Notho.
Peace,
~RJ~
